5 reasons why we are Tassie’s Contraception Experts.

At Family Planning Tasmania, all our doctors and nurses are experts in sexual and reproductive health, and a large part of this is contraception. Here are five reasons why we are Tasmania’s contraception experts.

1. Additional Qualifications.

Each one of our doctors and nurses has additional qualifications in sexual and reproductive health. All of our doctors undertake the FPAA (Family Planning Alliance Australia) National Certificate in Reproductive & Sexual Health for Doctors. This intensive and comprehensive course for doctors provides training for excellence in the delivery of sexual and reproductive health in primary care. The course comprises theory, a written exam, a role-play exam and clinical placements and is accredited by the Royal Australian College of General Practitioners. Learn more about the Certification by clicking here.

As well as specialist sexual and reproductive health qualifications, many of our doctors are trained in IUD (Intra-uterine device) insertions and do them week-in, week-out. This means you can rest assured you are in safe hands.

2. Passion.

All our doctors are GPs, and many also work in private practices but also choose to work in our clinics because they are passionate about sexual and reproductive health. Our doctors are passionate about empowering all Tasmanians in their sexual and reproductive health outcomes. One way we do this is by helping you choose a contraceptive option that’s right for you. Because we are passionate, and we care.

3. Long appointments to investigate.

Our appointments are typically twice as long as a standard GP appointment to focus on our quality of care. Our doctors want to spend the time to fully understand your concerns and explore what works best for you. You will receive expert, tailored advice that’s right for you.  Contraception is not ‘one size fits all’; our contraceptive needs and wants are as diverse as the community we serve. You can also ask any ‘funny’ questions you have been too embarrassed to ask your GP. Trust us, we’ve seen it before.

4. At the forefront of Tasmania.

Our doctors are highly skilled and regularly train other doctors and nurses around Tasmania. Not only do our doctors and nurses hold additional qualifications in sexual and reproductive health, but they also teach others about things like contraception, lifting the expertise of all interested doctors to improve the lives of all Tasmanians. Because our clinics are specialised, the doctors keep up-to-date with all sexual and reproductive health science advancements, such as medical research, legislation changes, and medical advancements. If a new contraceptive choice hits the market, our doctors will be the first to know.

5. Decades of expert experience in Tasmania.

Family Planning Tasmania began with one passionate employee providing clinical and educational services in 1973. We now have 35 doctors and nurses across the state. This means we’ve had almost fifty years of servicing the Tasmanian community and learning what works. We have been working with and for Tasmanians all around the state through our three clinics in Glenorchy, Launceston and Burnie, and our outreach clinics at Pulse Youth and headspace Devonport.

Our doctors in Glenorchy, Launceston and Burnie have appointments available now. Visit our appointments page by clicking here to make an appointment today to find the right contraception for you.
