🌈🗓️ Reflecting on Pride Month: Honoring the Past, Striving for a Brighter Future 🌈🗓️
As we enter Pride Month, this first day of June, we remember the historical significance of this celebration and the ongoing fight for equality and acceptance. Pride Month traces its roots back to the Stonewall Riots of 1969, where LGBTQ+ individuals stood up against discrimination. While progress has been made, but we recognise that the journey towards full equality is still in progress.
At Family Planning Tasmania, we stand in solidarity with the LGBTIQ+ community, striving to provide a safe and inclusive space for all individuals. This Pride Month, let's come together to celebrate diversity, challenge prejudice, and work towards a future where every person is embraced and celebrated for who they are.

This week is National Reconciliation Week. The week is a chance to celebrate and reflect on our shared histories, cultures and achievements, especially those of our First Nations people. It is a time for us all to reflect on our individual roles in achieving reconciliation in Australia. The theme for this year is Be a Voice for Generations.
But what does reconciliation mean? In the context of National Reconciliation Week and First Nations Australians, reconciliation refers to the process of healing, understanding, and building respectful relationships between Indigenous and non-Indigenous peoples in Australia. It recognises the historical injustices, dispossession, and marginalisation experienced by First Nations Australians due to colonisation and seeks to address the ongoing impacts of these injustices.
Reconciliation involves acknowledging and respecting the diverse cultures, languages, and traditions of First Nations Australians, as well as recognising their unique rights and contributions to the nation. It requires a commitment to truth-telling, education, and understanding of the shared histories, experiences, and struggles Indigenous communities face.
Will you be a voice for generations?
