Inspiring feedback received about our in-house Sexuality & Ageing workshops.
In late 2022, the team at Family Planning Tasmania promoted our Sexuality and Ageing workshops to the Aged Care Sector. Two internal workshops were delivered on-site to an Aged Care Provider.
We received some fantastic, inspiring and motivating feedback about the workshops and we wanted to share it. This kind of feedback shows why workshops like this are so important in the community.
About the Sexuality & Ageing workshop
The workshop aims to empower aged care workers in supporting the sexuality of people living in aged care. Sexuality and Ageing provides important information for managers, clinical staff and support staff with a focus on:
- Supporting compliance with the proposed Aged Care Accreditation standards, 2019, including maintaining Consumer Dignity and Choice (intimate relationships).
- Practical strategies to ensure care practices support the Aged Care Act 1997 residents’ rights and responsibilities.
- Understanding respectful ways in which intimate needs assessments can be undertaken as part of organisational practice.
- Examining pre-existing ideas about ageing and sexuality and empowering staff to develop a positive and respectful approach to intimate relationships.
- Exploration of issues such as dignity, consent and risk for clients and those that care for them.
- Simple strategies that can assist in supporting diverse client needs.
- Communication strategies for discussing topics relating to relationships, sexual health, sexuality, diversity and social safety.
- Information about referral pathways for clients with unmet needs or who require further education.
