Most sexually transmitted infections (STIs) don’t show any symptoms. That’s the key message behind Sexual and Reproductive Health Australia’s latest awareness campaign, encouraging regular testing as a normal and essential part of being sexually active.

We’re working to reduce the stigma and fear that can surround STI testing and positive results. The campaign reassures people that testing is simple and confidential and reminds them that all STIs are treatable (and nothing to be ashamed of). Getting tested shows care for yourself and others.

This national push focuses on:
• Promoting regular STI testing
• Educating about asymptomatic STIs
• Encouraging open conversations about sexual health

Today is World Mental Health Day and talking about what you are going through with someone you trust can be of great help. This might be a partner, friend, family member or colleague. đź’™

Regular check-ins around mental health are also important:
✔️Take time to ask a mate how they are doing and listen with an open mind
✔️Catch up around activities you enjoy such as sports, volunteering and hobbies
✔️If you or a loved one is struggling, there is help available.

Where to get help?

Call Medicare Mental Health on 1800 595 212 for advice, help finding the right services and support across all public, private and community services. (8:30am to 5pm excluding public holidays).

Call Access Mental Health on 1800 332 388 for advice, assessment, referrals or support from Tasmanian public mental health services. (24/7)

If you or someone you know is experiencing distress, seek help and support from Lifeline 13 11 14 or the Suicide Call Back Service 1300 659 467.
